The Guide to Rose Gold Engagement Rings

Rose Gold's Popularity is On The Rise! Find Out More About This Eye-Catching Metal!

Rose gold engagement rings may not be the most traditional choice, but they’ve grown increasingly sought after in recent years. Pink hues with sparkling hints of gold are the trendiest color choices for every type of jewelry, and the love of this unique color extends to engagement rings. Rose gold engagement rings make a beautiful statement of love and of style, romantic in their look yet classically elegant in their design. Stand out in a sea of white gold, yellow gold, and platinum rings with a rose gold engagement ring that enthralls with distinctive beauty.

To help you determine if a rose gold engagement ring is the right choice for your future bride (or yourself!), Medawar Jewelers presents our guide to these unique rings. With more than 30 years of experience in bridal and wedding jewelry, Michigan’s Medawar Jewelers can help you find the perfect rose gold engagement ring for any style, any personality, and any relationship.

What is Rose Gold?

Rose gold engagement rings are crafted from a metal that isn’t found in nature. While traditional choices like white and yellow gold are natural materials, rose gold is actually a manmade alloy—a mixture of different metals that includes natural yellow gold, copper, and even silver and zinc. Rose gold comes in a spectrum of different shades that range from a deep copper red to light, blush-like pink. The more copper included in a rose gold alloy, the rosier the coloring.

Rose gold was first created by Carl Faberge, maker of the famed Faberge eggs and jeweler of Russian czars. Faberge first blended an alloy of rose gold in the 19th century, naming it “Russian Gold” during his lifetime. In the centuries since that first alloy, rose gold has become increasingly popular for engagement rings and fashion jewelry alike.

Why Rose Gold Karats Make a Difference

The karat amount, when discussing rose gold, refers to the specific blend of metals that create a shade of this special metal. 18 karat is the highest used in engagement rings, featuring 75 percent yellow gold mixed with copper and a small amount of silver or zinc. 14 karat rose gold contains less yellow gold—about 58 percent—and is often considered the most popular choice. This is because 14 karat rose gold can create a wide range of colors, from dark rose gold to light, soft pink. 10 karat and 9 karat are also options, including increasingly less yellow gold in their mix.

At Medawar Jewelers, 14 karat and 18 karat rose gold engagement rings are popular. Rings that feature a band crafted entirely from rose gold create a beautiful background against which a center diamond sparkles and radiates brightness. Designers including A. Jaffe, Kirk Kara, Mars, and more offers a host of rings in rose gold varieties—and at Medawar Jewelers, you can also ask for custom design to craft the rose gold engagement ring that best suits you or your future fiancée.

Rose gold doesn’t have to be the focal point of an engagement ring. Rather, this stunning and different metal can be a feature of an engagement ring instead of the primary precious metal. Rings like those in the Verragio Couture collection and the A. Jaffe Art Deco collection use rose gold accents along the band of various engagement rings to add a pop of color and create a stunning contrast.
