Started in 1880 by Kintaro Hattori, Seiko has a long and storied history with luxury watchmaking. Originally called Seikosha, which roughly translates to “exquisite house†in Japanese, Seiko got its start as a watch repair shop. In the first few decades, the company saw extraordinary progress, from wall clocks to pocket watches to wrist watches to the Diashock, a shock-resistance gizmo that revolutionized wrist watches.
The Seiko Way
Fast forward to today, Seiko continues to set the bar in many ways. Their latest mission is celebrating time as moments to be enjoyed and as a means for making meaningful connections. Here at Medawar Jewelers, we are proud to count them among the luxury timepiece brands we carry.
The Prospex Collection
The Seiko Prospex collection inspires discovery and seeks to push nearly every limit for sports lovers and adventure seekers. Using innovative technology derived from Japan’s first ever diver’s watch, the Prospex collection offers best in class quality for reliability and safety for professional and recreational outdoor enthusiasts. Its Spring Drive is especially reliable for action sports like diving or climbing, making the Prospex a sure-handed companion, whether adventuring on land, in water, or even in the sky.
The Presage Collection
With Japanese aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship at the forefront, the Seiko Presage collection is grounded in Japanese beauty, quality, and long-lasting performance. Offering both men’s and women’s styles, the Presage collection is perhaps best known for its partnership with a Japanese bartender and mixologist several years ago.
Cocktail Time was an imaginative collection of takes on quintessential late-night cocktails: from rich, syrupy old fashioneds and decadent green hues of mockingbirds for men to the warm orange-pinks of Italian bellinis for women. The line has a bit of a cult following, especially since it was exclusively available only in Tokyo until 2017.
The Coutura Collection
The Seiko Coutura collection features classic everyday styles with some of the most advanced solar watch technology, utilizing perpetual chronographs (hassle-free calendars) and kinetic (self-winding) movements. While most of the men’s Coutura options are solar, there are a couple mechanical options with sleek lines and handsome detailing of the dial, like the SSA313P9 with a stainless steel case and a rich calfskin band.
Though fewer in number, the Seiko Coutura women’s collection makes up for limited styles with velvety ceramic and lush mother-of-pearl dials, accented with radiant diamonds, perfect for the fashion-forward woman.
The Diamond Collection
Seiko’s Diamond collection caters more to women than men when it comes to style quantities, but boy, is this a cool collection of watches. Using light energy as its power source, the watches in the Diamond collection have a crazy high 10-12 month power reserve once the timepiece is fully charged. With no sacrifice to style or quality, the Diamond collection offers yet another reason Seiko is still a stalwart in the watch industry after over a century.
